Hitt jun, Sewjunx druar dirr Kosala Qog ee ciurnaa. Hitt sii, Bharadvaja Jok ee brahmin jerje derjuw uirdiyhh kiyh caa laii qaur jitt xee ciurnaa. Qaur hiax, inx knuar diyc Sewjunx dirr ciurnaa lairdew tiappuann jre lehh, sinkux tringg trinrr, lip jniawliam jre lehh. Qnir liauxau, inx laii qaur Bharadvaja ee brahmin hiax. Qauwui, inx iong jiaxee ue qra Bharadvaja ee brahmin qongw, “Junsux, liw qaidongx jai'ngiaw. Hitt xee ciurnaa u jit xee sabunn tiappuann jre lehh, sinkux tringg tringg, lip jniawliam jre lehh.”

Hitt sii, Bharadvaja ee brahmin qapp hiaxee siauwlenlangg longxx kir qaur ciurnaa, qnir diyc Sewjunx dirr ciurnaa lairdew tiappuann jre lehh, sinkux jniar jniar, lip jniawliam jre lehh. Qnir liauw, inx kir Sewjunx hiax vaiwhongw, iong jimgensix duiww Sewjunx qongw:
"Iappiah ee ciurnaa jin’ kiongxvor,
Qo’ jit langg zip laii kangx ee ciurnaa,
Simx byy drang sidjai suiw.
Jiacc bixhyw ee bikiu,
Liw decc jersenn.
Dirr jiax berdangr cniuwquax,
Iarr berdangr qongxue,
Dogdok singwjiaw uaxkyr ciurnaa,
Simx hnuahiw qo' jit langg druar dirr ciurnaa.
Guaw knuar jex sidjai hanxiuw.
Guaw sniu qongxx,
Liw beh kir dirr busiong ee tnix,
Beh qapp Samtenx sewqair ee jruw,
Juer dangpnua.
Sniaw enqor jit langg dirr ciurnaa?
Junjiaw sriux koxhingg,
Uirdiyhh kir qaur huantenx si bor?”

Huanhux jiongxjiongw jipdiok,
Air beh sniaw iacc hnuahiw sniaw,
Longxx laii jurr budix ee qinx.
Jex itcer guaw longxx dngrqinx.
Guaw byy tamsimx byy iogbong,
Iarr m qapp inx jiapqin.
Guaw u jerje cingjing ee qenwsig,
Laii dadqaur busiong,
Qetsiongg ee jniawqag.
Brahmin, guaw qo' jit langg,
Byy qniahniaa decc jersenn.”

Jiaxee ue qongw liauw, Bharadvaja Jok ee brahmin iong jiaxee ue duiww Sewjunx qongw, “Junjiaw Gotama si jueww derr id uixdai! Gotama si jueww derr id uixdai! Gotama kyxviw hro dyw .lyc .ee vreh kiw, virr kamr :ee henxhen, jixsi dyrlo hro bebangg :ee, kyxviw u bagjiux :ee tangx qnir diyc mihqnia ee hxingg, kyxviw oamr diongx qongbingg ee dinghuew. Junjiaw Gotama qongw jiongxjiongw hxuad. Guaw beh quiix Sewjunx, Hxuad, qapp jingdoo, hibang dirr Sewjunx Gotama jitt xui cutqex siurqair. Guan junjiaw Gotama jiaplap guaw qimzit ixau jiongsingx quiix juer iuvysad.”

18. The Wood Gatherers
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling among the Kosalans in a certain woodland thicket. Now on that occasion a number of brahmin boys, students of a certain brahmin of the Bharadvaja clan, approached that woodland thicket while collecting firewood. Having approached, they saw the Blessed One sitting in that woodland thicket with his legs folded crosswise, holding his body erect, having set up mindfulness in front of him. Having seen him, they approached the brahmin of the Bharadvaja clan and said to him: “See now, master, you should know that in such and such a woodland thicket a recluse is sitting with his legs folded crosswise, holding his body erect, having set up mindfulness in front of him.”

Then the brahmin of the Bharadvaja clan, together with those brahmin boys, went to that woodland thicket. He saw the Blessed One sitting there … having set up mindfulness in front of him. He then approached the Blessed One and addressed him in verse:
“Having entered the empty, desolate forest,
Deep in the woods where many terrors lurk, 
With a motionless body, steady, lovely,
How you meditate, bhikkhu, so beautifully!
In the forest where no song or music sounds,
A solitary sage has resorted to the woods! 
This strikes me as a wonder—that you dwell
With joyful mind all alone in the woods.
I suppose you desire the supreme triple heaven,
The company of the world’s divine lord.
Why do you resort to the desolate forest?
To practise austerity for attaining Brahma?”

“Whatever the many desires and delights
Always attached to the manifold elements,
Longings sprung from the root of unknowing:
All I have demolished along with their root.
I am desireless, unattached, disengaged;
My vision of all things has been purified.
Having attained the auspicious—supreme enlightenment—
Self-confident, brahmin, I meditate alone.”

When this was said, the brahmin of the Bharadvaja clan said to the Blessed One: “Magnificent, Master Gotama! Magnificent, Master Gotama!… Let Master Gotama remember me as a lay follower who from today has gone for refuge for life.”

〔一八〕採薪
爾時,世尊住拘薩羅國之森林。
其時,有婆羅墮闍姓婆羅門之眾多弟子,為採薪而來至此森林。
至而見世尊於林中結跏趺坐,身正直,樹立正念而坐。見而來到彼婆羅墮婆闍婆羅門處。
到已,以此告婆羅墮婆闍婆羅門曰:「尊師!請知!彼森林有一沙門結跏趺坐,身正直,樹立正念而坐。」
時婆羅墮婆闍婆羅門,與彼其青年等,俱到森林。見世尊在森林中結跏趺坐,身正直,樹立正念而坐。見已,詣世尊之處,以偈白世尊曰:
深森有多怖   獨入於空林
心不動實美   甚美之比丘
汝是在禪思   無能歌此者
亦無能言語   獨聖者依林
心喜獨住林   我見實希有
我思念乃此   願生於無上
三天世界主   為作同伴者
何故獨於林   尊者修苦行
為達於梵否
〔世尊:〕
凡夫種種著   愛欲或歡喜
生自無知根   一切我斷除
我無貪無欲   亦不與接近
有諸清淨見   到達於無上
吉祥之正覺   婆羅門我獨
於無畏禪思
如是言已,婆羅墮婆闍姓婆羅門,以此白世尊曰:「尊者瞿曇!是最勝者……乃至……願尊者瞿曇從今日以後,受我終生歸依為優婆塞。」
