34 There Are No
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Shravasti in Jeta’s Grove, Anathapindika’s Park.
Then, when the night had advanced, a number of devatas belonging to the Satullapa host, (all) of stunning beauty, illuminating the entire Jeta’s Grove, approached the Blessed One. Having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One and stood to one side. Then one devata, standing to one side, recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
“There are, for humans, no lasting sense pleasures;
When a person becomes bound
To whatever pleasurable things exist here,
When he is heedless in their midst,
From within Death’s realm he does not reach
The state of no-more-coming-back.”

“Misery is born of desire,
Suffering is born of desire.
By the removal of desire misery is removed,
By the removal of misery suffering is removed.”

“They are not sense pleasures, the world’s pretty things:
Man’s sensuality is the intention of lust.
The pretty things remain as they are in the world
But the wise remove the desire for them.
One should discard anger, cast off conceit,
Transcend all the fetters.
No sufferings torment one who has nothing,
Who does not adhere to name-and-form.
Having abandoned reckoning, he did not assume conceit;
He cut off craving here for name-and-form.
Though devas and humans search for him
Here and beyond, in the heavens and all abodes,
They do not find the one whose knots are cut,
The one untroubled, free of longing.” 

“If devas and humans have not seen
The one thus liberated here or beyond,”

(said the Venerable Mogharaja),
“Are they to be praised who venerate him,
The best of men, faring for the good of humans?”
“Those bhikkhus too become worthy of praise, 

(Mogharaja,” said the Blessed One),
“Who venerate him, the one thus liberated.
But having known Dhamma and abandoned doubt,
Those bhikkhus become even surmounters of ties.

[三四] 第四 非然
爾時,世尊,住舍衛城祇樹給孤獨園。
爾時,甚多沙睹羅巴天神等,其勝光偏照祇園、於黎明往詣世尊住處。詣已禮敬世尊,立於一面。立於一面之天神,於世尊前,唱此偈曰:
人人中愛慾   乃非是常住
於此有愛樂   人人被繫縛
於此以放逸   而無作歸來
人人死魔領   如是不歸來
禍從慾望生   苦惱從欲生
以調伏慾望   是則禍調伏
若已調伏禍   則調伏苦惱
世之諸對象   乃非是愛慾
於貪之思念   此人之愛慾
於世諸對象   依舊猶留存
於此之賢者   乃調伏慾望
離忿及舍慢   超越一切縛
不執著名色   斯人無何物
亦無陷入苦   除念不行慢
於此斷名色   乃至於渴愛
斷結離煩惱   乃至無慾心
斯人此世後   於人與天界
及一切住處   無需求其跡
(尊者摩加拉奢如是問:)
此世及後世   若天與人共
不見解脫人   以敬仰禮拜
拜無上利行   亦贊彼等否
(世尊呼摩加拉奢尊者,而予回答:)
比丘若禮拜   如是解脫人
亦應贊彼等   若知法離疑
比丘彼等亦   超越結縛人

"Linw qokk langg soxx qongw :ee longxx driyc. Mrqycc, iarr laii tniax guaw ee hnuahiw jimgensix:
'Jiauww soxx sinr :ee vowsix,
Sriu jiongxjiongw ylyw.
Huatqur sisiar qyckacc ngiaa,
Dirr jinwjingg sxer,
Quewkir sxer ee senrzinn,
U diwhui ee jingwlangg,
Longxx qniaa qaur liappuann(Nibbana).'"

33 Good
Setting at Shravasti. 
Then, when the night had advanced, a number of devatas belonging to the Satullapa host, (all) of stunning beauty, illuminating the entire Jeta’s Grove, approached the Blessed One. Having approached, they paid homage to the Blessed One and stood to one side. Then one devata, standing to one side, uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
Through stinginess and negligence
A gift is not given.
One who knows, desiring merit,
Should surely give a gift.”

Then another devata uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
And further:
Even when there’s little, giving is good.
Some provide from what little they have,
Others well endowed don’t like to give.
An offering given from what little one has
Is worth a thousand times its value.”

Then another devata uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
Even when there’s little, giving is good.
And further:
When done with faith too, giving is good.
Giving and warfare are similar, they say:
A few good ones conquer many.
If one with faith gives even a little,
He thereby becomes happy in the other world.”

Then another devata uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
Even when there’s little, giving is good.
When done with faith too, giving is good
And further:
The gift of a righteous gain too is good.
When he gives a gift of a righteous gain
Obtained by exertion and energy,
Having passed over Yama’s Vetarani River,
That mortal arrives at celestial states.”

Then another devata uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
Even when there’s little, giving is good.
When done with faith too, giving is good
The gift of a righteous gain too is good.
And further:
Giving with discretion too is good.&68
Giving with discretion is praised by the Sublime One—
To those worthy of offerings
Here in the world of the living.
What is given to them bears great fruit
Like seeds sown in a fertile field.”

Then another devata uttered this inspired utterance in the presence of the Blessed One:
“Good is giving, dear sir!
Even when there’s little, giving is good.
When done with faith too, giving is good
The gift of a righteous gain too is good.
Giving with discretion too is good.
And further:
Restraint towards living beings is also good.
One who fares harming no living beings
Does no evil from fear of others’ censure.
In that they praise the timid, not the brave,
For out of fear the good do no evil.”

Then another devata said to the Blessed One: “Which one, Blessed One, has spoken well?”
“You have all spoken well in a way. But listen to me too:
“Surely giving is praised in many ways,
But the path of Dhamma surpasses giving.
For in the past and in ancient times,
The goodly wise ones attained Nibbana.”

欲為功德者  而行於佈施

善哉行佈施  善哉貧困施
或人貧亦施  或富不好施
貧困之施與  功德計千倍
爾時,其他之天神,於世尊前,唱此歡喜偈曰:
善哉行佈施  貧困施善哉
依信施亦善  佈施戰同謂
如少數善人  以勝於多數
若貧依信施  利他人安樂
爾時,其他之天神,於世尊前,唱此歡喜偈曰:
友善哉佈施  貧困施善哉
依信施亦善  如法施亦善
精進於如法  以得佈施者
以越夜摩界  衛多羅尼川
而往於天界
爾時,其他之天神,於世尊前,唱此歡喜偈曰:
善哉行佈施  貧困施善哉
依信施亦善  如法施亦善
辨別施亦善  辨別之施者
善逝所讚歎  此世值供養
行施有大果  猶善田蒔種
爾時,其他之天神,於世尊前,唱此歡喜偈曰:
善哉行佈施  貧困施亦善
依信施亦善  如法施亦善
辨別施亦善  自製於有生
不害有生者  善哉求生活
懼人之責難  以致不為惡
如是贊懼者  責不懼勇者
善人懼責難  以不為惡事
爾時,其他之天神,以此向世尊曰:“世尊!誰之偈為善說耶?”
[世尊曰:]
依汝等各各皆善說,然則,且聞我[歡喜偈:]
依信之佈施  被受種種譽
法句施尤勝  其以前之世
過去世善人  有智慧諸人
皆行於涅槃
